A Quick Chat With Fashion Designer Tracy Reese
Tracy Reese is no stranger to the fashion scene. She’s a well respected fashion designer from Detroit, known for creating women’s ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and home fashions.
She’s fresh off New York Fashion Week, with her hands in other upcoming projects. To add, the buzz is still flowing about Michelle Obama’s custom made dress that she wore to the Democratic National Convention. It was darling! Amazingly, I had a chance to chat with Tracy. Keep reading to find out what she had to say.
You are such an amazing designer! How did you end up designing a dress for the first lady? That’s a BIG deal!
Thank you so much! The whole process happened very quickly. We sent over a few things but it wasn’t until she stepped out on stage to make her amazing speech that I found out she was wearing one of our dresses!
And starting December 1st, shoppers will be able to purchase that exact dress online, correct?
Yes, the dress will be available beginning December 1st.
Tracy, you’ve been referred to as the ‘print master’ and it clearly showed on the runway during NYFW. What was your inspiration behind the mixing of prints with accents of embellishments?
I was inspired by David Hockney landscapes and wanted to infuse those colors and prints into my collection.
I love that your designs are fashionable pieces that women can actually feel comfortable wearing. I even hear that your dresses fit like a glove. Is this how you want your signature to be received?
Absolutely! I want all women to feel confident and sexy in my designs.
I read that your dad initially backed your business financially. Is this true? If so, there’s no doubt that you’re a daddy’s girl and I can totally relate!
It is true! Both of my parents believed in my dreams and aspirations and wanted to help me get on my feet. It was an amazing thing for my dad to initially finance my launch, and I never would have had this opportunity otherwise.
