Behind the Curtain with Lubov Azria
When it comes to multi-tasking mavens in the fashion industry, Lubov Azria, wife of designer Max Azria and BCBGMAXAZRIA’S COO, ranks as one of the most inspiring women in the industry. She’s a wife and mom, overseeing a fashion empire. She’s definitely the epitome of a trailblazer!
I had the opportunity to chat with Lubov last night at Fashion Houston. It was such a pleasure and honor. We talked about the collection and what a prototypical Hervé Léger woman is all about. Check the recap and pictures below.
Tell us a bit about the resort collection that we’re seeing on tonight.
Well today you’re going to see a resort collection. It’s inspired by pop art and modern art…it’s inspired by Mondrian. It’s a very powerful and strong collection. You’re going to see a lot of color and a lot of beading because it falls into the holiday season.
What was the creative process like?
It was the same as we usually do. Hervé Légerconsists of bandages. It’s handwork with bandages and it’s all we do.
You’re originally from Ukraine and lived in San Antonio. How long were you there? How does it feel to be in your home state, showcasing your line?
Oh my God! She’s always at the forefront of fashion. She knows what she wants and she goes after it. You know, she is truly a visionary. She’s glamorous, strong and powerful…that’s what we design for.
I get the same energy from you. Am I correct?
You work closely with designer Max Azria, who also happens to be your husband. How does it work exactly? How do two great minds work together to create one unique collection?
Amazing! My husband is 18 years senior than I am, so he’s an incredible man and my mentor. It helps that his office is way on the other side of the building [laughs] but he is truly my inspiration and the love of my life.
